E Komo Mai!
The Order of Kamehameha, a civic club, established the Kamehameha Canoe Club in the early 1960s. In 1973 Kamehameha, along with other clubs, separated from HRCA to form Na `Ohana `O Na Hui Wa`a.
From the beginning Kamehameha has been a family-oriented club which maintains a strong focus on Hawaiian culture and its values.
In 1979 the Kamehameha Women raced in the first Na Wahine O Ke Kai race from Moloka`i to O`ahu.
Our koa canoe, Kahaleloa, is named after our first president, Adam Kahaleloaokaukanaokamehameha Ahai. The canoe was built in Kona, one of two boats carved from a single log taken at Haleakalā. Our Girls-16 were the last crew to race the canoe, at the 2006 State Championships. The club is currently raising funds to restore Kahaleloa to racing condition.
